Hi there! I’m Laura McWhite, and my love of teaching started in the front row of my mom’s high school English classroom. I followed in her footsteps with a degree in education from Idaho State University and began teaching English and Journalism at South Fremont Jr. High. But life had other plans—plans that led me to Alaska, to homeschooling, and to a passion I never saw coming.

For the last two decades, I’ve taught literature and history in small, high-energy classrooms built for homeschoolers. My classes are part seminar, part book club, and part time machine. We read powerful texts, analyze primary sources, write by hand every week, and build personal timelines that help students see how events connect and shape the world.

I’m especially passionate about helping students move beyond memorizing facts to understanding how history works—how one event leads to another, and how those ideas can be clearly expressed in writing and discussion. I love finding just the right poem to pair with a turning point in history and watching students discover that learning can feel as rich as a great story.

Homeschooling is more than a method—it’s a way of life. I know how powerful it can be to choose your own path, set your own schedule, and walk alongside your kids as they grow. My goal is to support that journey with classes that are structured, challenging, and full of heart—helping students grow in both skill and confidence.
