Mr. Soper began his teaching career in Anchorage more than two decades ago and is excited to serve as the mathematics instructor for Eagle River Homeschool during the 2026–2027 school year. Over the years, he has taught at Holy Rosary Academy, served as an adjunct professor for the University of Alaska Anchorage and Wayland Baptist University, worked with the Anchorage School District as a math support teacher and substitute, and substituted within the Mat-Su Borough School District. He currently works full-time as a professor at UAA while also providing private math tutoring.

With more than 30 years of teaching and tutoring experience, Mr. Soper has worked with students at all levels of mathematics, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics, as well as chemistry and physics.

After earning his Master of Science in Mathematics from Texas A&M in 2011, Mr. Soper spent much of the last decade supporting oil and gas production on Alaska’s North Slope in a variety of technical roles. His work included directional well planning for coiled tubing, drilling services application engineering, and integrity data analysis. These positions involved advanced mathematical applications such as anticollision calculations, finite element analysis, and pipeline inspection data analysis.

Mr. Soper understands that every student learns differently and believes there is no single teaching approach that works for everyone. Wherever he teaches, he is passionate about supporting students of all skill levels and helping them grow in both confidence and ability in math.
